Member Since: 2007 Media Specialties: Glass; City: Elkin State: North Carolina County: Surry County, NC Bio: Barbara Elmore Mentor in Glass Working with glass is like living inside a kaleidoscope, all your senses whirling to the colors of life. Glass becomes a passion. A child is told not to touch it, she might get cut. That creates the curiosity that is the soul of an artist. Barbara says, “I have been very fortunate in life to have wonderful and loving support from family, friends, and other glass professionals to guide me forward, encourage, and accept this fascination I have with color.” She started out in stained glass many years ago then progressed into the fusing process through private lessons and classes at the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts in Winston-Salem. She became acquainted with a community of artists whose works are primarily in fused or “warm” glass. Barbara has studied under Brad Walker of Clemmons (owner of Warm Glass Elements Gallery, author of Contemporary Warm Glass, and creator of www.warmglass.com), Jody Danner Walker, Gene Messick, Barry Kaiser, Shirley Webster, and Jonathan Schmuck. She currently works on jewelry, dichroic inclusions, and gift items, such as sushi sets, breeze chimes, and "Imelda's" (over-the-top stiletto heels made from glass and whimsical combinations that make you smile). Glass, light and color give Barbara a balance in life, enabling her to create something beautiful that can be shared with others. This Member's Galleries: This bio page has been viewed 816 times.
